I am a professor of political science at GW and a senior fellow in governance studies at Brookings. I study Congress, both its historical development and contemporary politics. My recent book with Mark Spindel, The Myth of Independence, explores Congress's relationship with the Federal Reserve (today and over the Fed's first century). I am also an editor of and occasional contributor to the political science blog, Good Authority. And I serve as the parliamentarian for GW's Faculty Senate [insert nerd emoji here]. Finally, at the top of this page is my favorite painting of the U.S. House of Representatives that used to hang in Washington's Corcoran Gallery of Art. (The painting was done by Samuel P. Morse before he gave up the arts for the telegraph.) At the bottom of the page are photos of my family. Enjoy!
